We're spread across the US these days, with family back in the Philippines too, but mahjong is still there whenever we come together. (Half of us have a square table sitting in our house right now, just waiting for the next game!) Since get-togethers can be hard to coordinate, we looked for a mobile version of the Filipino Mahjong we grew up around... and couldn't find one. Every app we tried got the rules wrong, skipped the flower tiles, or just didn't feel like the game our family loves. So we built it ourselves: a mobile version of Filipino-style Mahjong that plays the way our family plays it — real Pinoy rules, sagasa, siete pares, back-to-back, and more. Mabuhay Mahjong is for everyone: beginners learning the game, advanced players with decades of experience, and everywhere in between! We created it for Filipinos who grew up around a mahjong table, AND for our honorary Pinoys — the friends and adopted family we love pulling up a seat for, because introducing people to our culture is one of our favorite things to do. (Our family's lola is already lobbying hard for multiplayer with virtual coin betting. It's coming!) ## The Rules You Know The authentic 16-tile Filipino ruleset, not a generic Mahjong reskin. ## Addictive Gameplay No wall to build and no tiles to shuffle by hand, so you skip straight to the fast, addictive part of the game! ## Interactive Tutorial Never played Filipino mahjong? You're still welcome at the table!  ## Ready to Play Mahjong? Download Mabuhay Mahjong free on the App Store and start building your wall in minutes. Yes — you found us! We had this question, too, and that's why we built Mabuhay Mahjong. It's the real 16-tile Pinoy ruleset on your phone, not some generic Mahjong app with a Filipino coat of paint. #### Is Mabuhay Mahjong free to play? Yes! It's free to download and play. Earn virtual coins as you go, because what's mahjong without the thrill of the payout? #### Can I play Mabuhay Mahjong with friends and family? Multiplayer is in the works, and yes, we know that's the whole point. Right now it's you against the bots — a solid way to sharpen your game before you're calling *pung* on your titas. #### What operating systems and devices does Mabuhay Mahjong support? We're live on iOS and Android! You can play on a phone or tablet. #### Is Mabuhay Mahjong real-money gambling? No. It's virtual coins only; nothing you win converts to cash or prizes. (That's good news for us who are always losing at the IRL tables...) #### What is Filipino Mahjong? Filipino Mahjong is a variant of the classic mahjong tile game. Each player's hand begins with 16 tiles, and the winds, dragons, and seasons tiles are treated as bonus "flower" tiles instead of being used to score. Each round is fast and fun! It's a version of mahjong that's been going strong at Filipino tables (and basements) for generations. #### How is Filipino Mahjong different from Chinese Mahjong? The hand size, mainly — 16 tiles instead of 13 — plus we treat winds, dragons, and seasons as bonus flower tiles instead of separate scoring tiles. The core suits (Balls, Sticks, Characters) are the same ones you'd recognize from any mahjong set. #### Is Pinoy Mahjong the same as Filipino Mahjong? Yes, same game! #### How many tiles do you use in Filipino Mahjong? Each player holds 16, the dealer starts with 17 and discards first, and the full set runs 144 tiles once you count the flowers. If that sounds like a lot, the tutorial breaks it down tile by tile. #### Is Filipino Mahjong hard to learn? No! It's one of the more approachable versions of mahjong out there, since the flower-tile system keeps scoring simpler. The in-app tutorial walks you through tiles, calls, and winning hands so you're not just watching from the basement stairs anymore. #### How do you win at Filipino Mahjong? The standard win is five sets of three tiles, plus a pair. There are flashier ways to win, too, which will earn you more virtual coins: siete pares (seven pairs) and escalera (a straight 1–9 run in one suit) both count, and both feel great to pull off.
